If Inwood’s performers need a stage then Inwood Art Works can help through its Stage Works program, which produces and presents original and classical theater, musical, and variety works in the Inwood community.
Inwood Art Works is committed to the creation and development of new plays, musicals and operas for full production. We intend to produce the work we develop, and it all starts with cultivating creative and innovative ideas into engaging and culturally relevant new work.
It is our belief that classical drama and music is a universal and vital art form, and it is greatly neglected by our local culture. Our history reminds of not only where we come from, but reflects who we are as a society today. It is our aim to maintain the integrity of classical works while making them accessible to local audiences — because they were intently written for everyone!
This year, as Covid-19 temporarily puts an end to live performances, we continue to provide a platform for local artists through our series of video and audio podcasts, featuring interviews, performances and stories. Visit our podcast pages to learn more and download the episodes.
Our Stage Works programming began back in 2012 with The Back Porch Show, which has gone on to amaze and entertain audiences every summer by presenting a “cabinet of curiosities” of emerging and established variety artists. This variety program features the homegrown artistic excellence of local uptown artists; encompassing and including live music, comedy, painting, sculpture, photography, dance, spoken word, theater, and film.
Throughout the year we also offer a stage to local musicians, comedians and other live performers through our Live’n’Local program, which has included local Inwood acts as diverse as opera, string quartets, folk music, singer-songwriters, and improv groups.
